Pakistan's EV market has grown from zero to 5,000+ registered EVs in just three years. With petrol at Rs. 310/litre, running costs are the strongest argument for electric cars. Here's everything Pakistani buyers need to know in 2025.

Running Cost Comparison

This is the strongest argument for EVs in Pakistan. At current fuel prices:

Car TypeCost per kmDaily 50km costMonthly costYearly cost
Petrol car (1300cc)Rs. 21/kmRs. 1,050Rs. 31,500Rs. 3,78,000
Electric carRs. 4/kmRs. 200Rs. 6,000Rs. 72,000
Saving (Electric)Rs. 17/kmRs. 850/dayRs. 25,500/monthRs. 3,06,000/year
Financial Reality: An EV buyer paying Rs. 30 lakh premium vs a petrol car saves Rs. 3,06,000/year in fuel. Payback period: under 10 years — and electricity costs will only increase less than petrol.

Home Charging — The Essential Setup

All Pakistani EV buyers must plan home charging. You need: (1) A 240V AC outlet — standard in most homes but confirm with your electrician. (2) A dedicated 32A circuit from your distribution board — costs Rs. 5,000–15,000 to install. (3) The included 7kW charger (comes with car) — charges overnight in 7–10 hours. For faster charging, a 22kW home charger costs Rs. 80,000–120,000 but charges in 2–3 hours.

Public Charging Infrastructure 2025

Public charging is growing but not yet sufficient for long inter-city trips. Lahore: 15+ fast chargers (Shell, PARCO, and private operators). Islamabad: 20+ chargers, best coverage in Pakistan. Karachi: 12+ chargers, growing rapidly. Motorway M2: 3 charging stations. The Lahore–Islamabad route is now feasible in a BYD Atto 3 Extended Range with one charging stop.
